Keanu Reeves is in a remake of the classic 1950's film, The Day The Earth Stood Still. The trailer just got released today. What do you think?

There is one major change. The original had an anti-war message (stop fighting or we'll destroy all of you) but the remake is anti-pollution (stop destroying the Earth or we'll destroy all of you!).

I think the remake was written and produced by Al Gore. Grin Grin Grin

Cheesy Either way I'll be mad. In 1951 it was different, we were not involved in a big war and the anti-war movement was not such a political issue. Nowadays those who display strong anti-war opinions are usually leftists. Even the global crisis has become political. I think it is a slippery slope to make films with political messages attached because you will allienate a large portion of the possible audience. Just my 2 cents! Tongue

A large percentage of the movie-going public is too stupid to realize there's a message behind the flick. They'll follow the action, but won't look any deeper than that unless you hit them over the head with it.

Yeah, that is true. As long as it does not become the main focal point, in an in your face style Ill be fine.

Oh boy this movie looks like it will be so good...
Other than war of the worlds the classic version of this is one of the only old sci fi movies I have ever watched.

Actually Nick lane you should brush up on your history a bit... actually the U.S. and most of the world had just finished fighting WWII and the generation still remembered fighting WWI, the korean war(a big war that americans and canadans fought in) had already started and the Cold war(more a vicarious war between Communism and democracy and a war of espionage) was in full swing by then... so yes the message of the 1951 film was valid.... granted, I do agree with you about the new films message.

I am familiar with my US history. Smiley I said that we were not in the MIDDLE of a war. Les, WWII had just ENDED, but we were not fighting it. And as for the Cold War, that is different. That was a war of ideas and threats, not a war with guns and mustang airplanes. That is what I was talking about. Yes, the Korean war was happening then, that was a factualy error on my part and I am sorry. I am glad we agree about the message, I just think it is dangerous during a time of war and political unrest.

I think the new film uses Global Warming as its "message" this time around. Maybe Keanu and his robot friend drive around in a Prius the whole movie.

Well, imo, Keanu can't help but raise the temperature no matter where he is... so much for helping with Global Warming.

Oh, none taken! Sorry it I came across rude, I didn't mean to. Smiley I also seem to have mixed up my facts, I had forgotten that this new version is about "global warming." Hm.
