This movie was based on true events in the life of Christopher McCandless, who upon graduating college decided to go in search of truth.  Many things in his life were instrumental in getting him to the "jump off" point, but when he struck out on his adventure, he did it with complete abandon.  He in essence erased himself from society and just struck out, eventually making it to the Alaskan Wilderness.  I dont want to give anything away to anyone who doesn't know the story, so I will just say that I enjoyed this movie.  I wanted to see it before I left the states, but it didnt come out on DVD when I had the chance to watch it.  I just saw it lastnight.

It stars Emile Hirsch as Christopher "Alexander Supertramp" McCandless and had a wonderful performance by Hal Holbrook.  It was directed by Sean Penn and contains some of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen.

Its not one for the young kiddies, has a bit of nudity (of the hippie variety), but the overall theme and concept would be lost on youngsters.  Its not a Homeward Bound type movie....so save it for a grown-ups night.   Grin

Definitely an emotional film.

Here's the trailer.

It really freaked me out back when I first heard of this movie because I had been thinking of something like this myself. I had had this idea of just leaving everything behind and roaming around. Still seems like an appealing idea at some level. If I were any more out there I'd take it as a sign. These coincidences sometimes really make me wonder.
