I have not read any of her books. Which ones have your read, or which one are you reading now? And what did you learn from it?

I ve read a handful of her books (probably 4 or 5).. they are all about health (she s a medical intuitive) and spirit. I quote, "Your biography becomes your biology." Quite a few years back i had serious medical problems (had to drop out of college etc) and this is one of the books (teachers) who / that pulled me through. She talks fast, gives you loads of info, but it s worth it. You have a favorite author too?

Well, along those same spiritual-type books, I am reading Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. I am a skeptic in many ways about these types of books, but they interest me anyway. Rhonda Byrnes was recommended to me by a practicing psychologist, but also said much of what is said on the dvd is blatantly superficially materialistic. The core of it was the underlying theme. I've not been disappointed.

Wow, that's a powerful statement. "Your biography becomes your biology." That is so true of most people (I give exception to George Burns) since if your life has been full of alcohol, smoking, eating unhealthy, even extreme athleticism, etc..even if you don't feel the affects as a young adult, you will eventually feel them. I've seen a lot of positive and negative things about "The Secret", t, so give us a review when you are done.

No, it's not a modern version of the Bible. It's a 'self-help' book, it doesn't claim to be a religious text that I know of.

I have not finished the book yet. No, it is not a modern version of the bible. It references ideas and philosophical concepts from many many schools of thought. I've seen the dvd and had I not been told beforehand how superficial some of the things were that were chosen to make their points, I doubt I would have finished watching it. The book is a pretty good tool for learning a new way of thinking and how you view the events of your life. There are definite things, even in the book, that I have to look past in terms of materialism, but I can find absolutely no fault in the principles presented in the book.
You could certainly interpret many things in the book as being derivatives of christian teachings, but there are concepts that have roots in buddhism and other eastern ideologies as well.
Some of the most profound things I've learned from this book so far is how to be very aware of my thought patterns and processes, how to set a tone for my days at their very outset, and the power of positive visualization, belief, gratitude, and how toxic negative vibes are. Different people will come away from this book with different thoughts on it and experiences. Much of it could be common sense. Depends on the person.
I did not see the episode of Oprah, and had never heard about it before. I've enjoyed reading it very much so far.

Did it turn me into a better person? heh! The book is nothing but a tool for becoming more aware of how your thoughts and mind set can affect the realities of your life. Books in general (and in my opinion) merely present knowledge. What any one individual actually does with that knowledge is another thing. But once you know, you can never go back to a state of unknowing.

I really would like a recommendation for a frist-time reader. Which of Carolyn Myss's books would you pick? I've been reading bits and pieces on the web about medical intuitives and find it fascinating. Thanks...

I couldnt get "Anatomy of the Spirit" at my nearest library, but I did pick up "Sacred Contracts" and "Why People Dont Heal and How They Can". From the cover, I understand "Sacred Contracts" builds on what Myss presents in "Anatomy of the Spirit", but I'll have to take this one out of order this time. They seem very interesting, so I thank you for the post!

Myss makes some good points and she is certainly well-versed and knowledgeable in her topics, but she seems very negative and centered on her own workshops. I ended up reading most of Why People Dont Heal and How They Can. A pretty interesting read. Thanks for the suggestion of this author.

I admire her a great deal... it s just that sometimes i think she puts too much information in a single sentence so it s like i have to read the book ten times in order to fully grasp its meaning... know what i mean?

yes, I found myself doing that, too. A few times, I would read a certain sentence or paragraph and would pause to make sure I understood her intent and meaning. She is a very intelligent lady, for sure!

She actually also has her own radio show - http://www.hayhouse.com - just in case you happen to like that... Anyhow, maybe you all could also recommend a book to me (non-fiction)?

I have not read any of his books, but I have ordered Anthony deMello's "Awareness" from Isara's Amazon link. Although he passed away some years ago, his writing has been recommended by a doctor friend of mine. Here's a link to deMello's web page where you can read some of his articles. I approach these things with an open mind. http://www.demello.org/
