You're right, it should be more front and center. I'll find a better place for the link.

It's on EVERY page, bottom left. It could also be front page top left and on all pages in a more visible place. I don't think many people go to the bottom of a page for info. I search lots of websites and I always look at the top of the page for info. PK thanks for considering my suggestion.

What happened to the nifty little trophies in the arcade? It just made victory that much sweeter when there was a little dude with one's name holding a trophy.

We're trying to bring back the trophies. It might take some time to figure out how since it's not standard on the updated game software.

To prepare for an increase in web traffic we had to clean-up the frontpage a little. Just removed a few bells and whistles so there's less strain on the web server. The last thing we want is for our web host to shut us down because we're using too much of their CPU.
Things "temporarily" removed: - The Whose Online box (I liked it too but it wasn't very accurate and it slowed the site down) - The "Visits" counter (we'll still be monitoring the total visits and will let everyone know when we hit milestones) The people have spoken.
What was moved: - The "Extras" links and search box has been moved down a level so that our projects are closer to the top. The top of the frontpage was too heavy and confusing for first-time visitors.

I would reconsider removing the counter. Every new user takes a look at that and says "oh they've got over a million hits, I guess this site is probably legitimate."
At this point legitimacy is a very important factor for new users, everyone is so overly scam weary these days, every bit of feeling secure helps. The counter adds to that.
The "whose online box" was cool and serves the same purpose but I can see where that would take too much time to load. You can always go to the users online box at the bottom of the main forum to see who's been active.
Do not underestimate the power (illusion) of the counter. If there was no counter people who only looked at the front page the last week or so, they would probably only think there are 4 people who use the site Ginafish, Nick Lane, Mus, and Kitkat haha.

It's true, haha. I always get disapointed when I don't post for an hour or so and then I refreash the homepage and I am no longer on the list. I cry out "I am online!" but nobody hears me. As far as the counter I would put that back for a number of reasons: 1) Sean covered it. 2) How else are we going to have competition outside of the arcade? That 2 mil mark has been in the back of everyone's mind since we hit the big one. I NEED to be the one who gets it, and without the counter there I won't be able to know!

Did PK edit his post to say that those things were "temporarily" removed? I can see where he needs to do what needs to be done to keep us online. If skinning some things back for now is what he needs to do, then I can live with it.

Hmm...this poses a situation for you Sean. Something only you can fix... If you see four main users, then perhaps you should post and respond to more topics to make the numbers increase to five??

PK, you are one of the most selfless people I have ever had the privledge to meet. You will really do anything if we ask for it and now I kind of feel bad. You need to do what you need to do, regardless of the trivial points we may bring up. If the change is only temporary, we can deal with that (as long as it's back before the big 2 mil). I would much rather loose the counter for a few weeks than loose the whole site for who knows how long. Think about what you need to do and, if necessary, just tell me to shut up every once in a while.

Wow! No problem, Nick. If something must be deleted then it must be deleted and there's nothing that can be said that can change it. (Like the Favorites feature we had last year which had to be deleted.) Fortunately, this is not one of those cases. What you all said makes sense so we kept it.

Alright, I just know that you are the kind of guy who would put it back just cause Sean and I said something even though it may cause issues with the server. Glad to have it around still!
