Okay, since this is in my area, i feel compelled to comment on it. Smiley Hope you find it helpful, and viruses a little less scary. I'll be using quotes from the original article to illustrate solutions for this virus. These are generally good ideas anyhow, but especially so for vir... (viri? or viruses? Wink ) ... virusususes. Smiley

..."via booby-trapped websites that use vulnerabilities in Microsoft's browser to install the attack code."

This is a good time to point out that a firewall, good anti-virus, and a resident (always on) malware program are generally good ideas to have. Also, I'm sorry if you just love (<3) Internet Explorer but, um....Seriously??!! Like fighting a fire with a sieve.

"...buries itself deep inside Windows to avoid detection."

-Spybot S&D Yeah its a spyware checker, but it has a resident registry scanner, which makes it harder for a program to "root" itself into Windows.

"...usually downloads other malicious programs, such as keyloggers, to do the work of stealing confidential information."

Get a good password wallet (KeePass) or your browsers encrypted password organiser. Opera and FF both have them. Keyloggers work by intercepting the signals from your keyboard and storing them.

"Computers running Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 that are not fully patched are all vulnerable to the virus."

I can tell you all day, but some people don't get it. Update your software routinely! It's a pain sometimes, but it's just like a car and a house, you have to maintain it.

Hope these help. If you find that's it's to late, you don't have to shoot your computer. Simply download a Virus Scanner with a boot sector scan, boot time scan, or master boot record (MBR) scan. These will be able to take it out. I suggest Avast 4 Home Free if you don't have one.

I'm glad you felt compelled to answer. I counted on it. Grin

Thanks for keeping us posted on how to have more secure systems. (Well, not "us" but "them", since I don't use Windows routinely Cheesy )
