I don't know about you, but I spend a lot of time on the internet. I am on it all day at work, from reading e-mail to using the company website for just about everything I do. When I get home I use it to read personal e-mails, learn new stuff and find info on things important in my life.

Your home page in a web browser is where you start your web surfing. I looked around at work to see what home pages people have. Some have the default which came with the browser, others have the company's web site, and others have personalized web pages which list current news of interest to them, favorite links, and the like. For those who actually thought about and chose a home page, they chose a page which is very, dare I say, self centered. This is basic human nature.

Isara.org provides a homepage which is not based on your personal favorites, but instead has up-to-date info on humanitarian projects which are far from self centered. The Isara.org homepage puts others first, and that is the best place to start.

There is a very good Hindu article on Putting Others First, which I will quote:

Quote
"Dwelling on ourselves builds a wall between ourselves and others. Those who keep thinking about their needs, their wants, their plans, their ideas, cannot help becoming lonely and insecure."

The idea of putting others first is not just part of the Hindu religion, but a common thread amoung many religions. In Putting Others First, another Christian based article with ironically the same name, the author shows this is what Jesus meant when he said:

Quote
“If you want to find your life, you have to lose it.â€

Putting others first also shows up in Buddhism in the story of the Bodhisattva. Quoting from that page we find:

Quote
"At its core is the conception of Buddhism as a deeply compassionate religion in which true wisdom derives from putting others first, no matter what the cost to oneself."

Chosing to make isara.org your home pages is not as high a cost as what Buddhism says it is worth, but that doesn't mean it won't work. The cost of putting others first does not have to be high inorder to reap it's benefits.

Making isara.org your home page, puts your heart in the right place to start your daily internet journey.

Thank you, ZeroG, for preparing such a detailed (and thoughtful) post. I agree with ALL your comments. Then again, I'm a little biased. lol Grin And thank you to every one who puts others first by making Isara their homepage.

I have Isara as my homepage both here and in my laptop. I've also tried talking others into making it their homepage. I've even changed it on the school computers, but the librarian always changes it back to the school's homepage with very filtered Google Search.

Isara is a wonderful idea, and very, very well executed. I will be using you to search google through in the future.

You should set Searchkindly.com as your homepage. They (claim to) give $3/month for everyone that does.

Interesting. SearchKindly says they give "every penny" they make to charity. (I want to shake that guys hand.) As far as the $3 thing, there's absolutely no way to know how many people have set the site as their homepage so it's, as you said, just a "claim".

Please keep in mind that every site like SearchKindly or Goodsearch is a middleman to other charities. Searchkindly is better than Goodsearch because they give 100%, instead of 50%. But don't forget, Isara IS an actual charity. There is no middleman. You can actually see what your clicks are doing and interact with those in the field, creating the projects. It's a direct connection to those in need.
