Do you have any songs you like from other countries/languages? Here's a few of my favorites to get us started.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/D_inPcornio&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/D_inPcornio&rel=1</a>
Dikir Puteri - From Malaysia
Give it a minute and you won't be able to get the song out of your head.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1vzv11zj1iQ&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/1vzv11zj1iQ&rel=1</a>
Makambo - From Uganda
Any problems you have will drift away while hearing this song.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/BoQNj2tlZhg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/BoQNj2tlZhg&rel=1</a>
Chan Chan - From Cuba
The video is from a documentary so it's hard to hear the song sometimes.

So any non-american music is world music? I like Soulfly, the band formed by the brazilian metal band Sepultura's ex-vocalist Max Cavalera. They play what I like to call experimetal (get it, experimental metal, I'm so clever hohohhoo) with world music influences, a style that Max was experimenting with on the Sepultura album Roots. Examples:

Innerspirit (with guest vocalist from serbian hc/reggae band Eyesburn)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/KBfgLx6j_kY&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/KBfgLx6j_kY&rel=1</a>

Some random video for the traditional instrumental jams Soulfly IV and Soulfly V
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/25UUWVVUz00&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/25UUWVVUz00&rel=1</a>

Rather interesting Tree of Pain (with Asha Rabouin and Max's nephew Richie Cavalera)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/154IyLkk2Kg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/154IyLkk2Kg&rel=1</a>

I'll leave the heavier stuff out. I was going to post Back To The Primitive but it contains foul language. Plus Max's old hairstyle seen in the video causes eye pain.

Mus, your spidey sig looked to me like he was dancing to all of your picks.   Cheesy  I cant say about the middle of Tree of Pain because I admit I skipped to where the end sounded like the beginning.  (Gimme a break, my ears are old, but I gotcha)    Wink

This first one is by a singing duo called Kashtin and the sing in their native Innu language.  Kashtin are of Quebec's First Nations (similar I think to America's Native Indian tribes).

This one is called The Cherokee Morning Song and is performed by Walela.  This is a singing trio of sisters Rita Coolidge, Priscilla Coolidge and Laura Satterfield.  On the album I originally purchased, the jacket said this was a sort of chanting song the women would sing when they were out collecting wood and various edibles in the early morning.  Its a lovely simple piece and comes to my mind often when I watch the sunrise (dork alert).  The translation is simple, too.  "I am of the Great Spirit, it is so"

Lol, I agree Mus, since we are all from around the world, it's all kind of world music, isn't it? Cheesy

But I'll bite. Since I don't think we have anyone registered from Israel. Smiley Pele' (You are a miracle)

A couple more....

These are all from one of my all-time favorite albums "Robbie Roberson and the Red Road Ensemble".

This one is called "Ghost Dance" which was actually a religion of sorts that developed out of the oppression of the Native Americans by the white men.  There is an amazing explanation here: http://www.bgsu.edu/depar.../woundedknee/WKghost.html  It gets somewhat religious, but is just amazing.  Dance figured into their ceremonies pretty prominently, and this new worship or prayer was dubbed Ghost Dance by the white men who witnessed it, and subsequently outlawed it.  The belief that the second coming of Christ would see them through the suffering their people were going through were uniting many many different tribes and giving them hope.  Thus the outlawing of the ritual dance.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/wTY2pmKguDg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/wTY2pmKguDg&rel=1</a>

And this is by another First Nations group...an all female a cappella called Ulali.  Its called Mahk Jchi (or, the Heartbeat Drum Song)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/13doUQ5ZTQI&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/13doUQ5ZTQI&rel=1</a>

Lyrics:
Mahk jchi tahm buooi yahmpi gidi
Mahk jchi taum buooi kan spewa ebi
Mahk jchi tham buooi yahmpi gidi
Mahk jchi taum buooi kan spewa ebi
Mahmpi wah hoka yee monk
Tahond tani kiyee tiyee
Gee we-me eetiyee
Nanka yaht yamoonieah wajitse
Mahk jchi tahm buooi yahmpi gidi
Mahk jchi taum buooi kan spewa ebi
Mahk jchi tham buooi yahmpi gidi
Mahk jchi taum buooi kan spewa ebi
Mahmpi wah hoka yee monk
Tahond tani kiyee tiyee
Gee we-me eetiyee
Nanka yaht yamoonieah wajitse
Nanka yaht yamoomieah wajitse

English translation:

Our Hearts are full are our minds are good...
Our Ancestors come and give us strength
They say stand tall, sing and dance
never forget who you are or where you come from

I like the ol Indonesian Gamelan Orchestral stuff...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamelan

This is the closest video I could find to what I dig, despite the natural setting of the real stuff bein a significant part of what I like. My personal era of this stuff ended when the islands were bombed in WWII. This ONE dude had went thare and recorded the native music from a boat using two mile long cables with mics and whatnot... just a few months later they were bombed and a tradition's pure form was about wiped.

http://video.google.com/v...onesian+Gamelan&hl=en

I'm as white as they come, but I've been diggin this stuff here fer about 16 years, and only about half of that time have I known that my Great Great Grandmother was Indonesian!
