Yep, my tolerance for peppers is about Bell Pepper level to Banana Peppers. I find a good barometer is to feed a bald man peppers, and see what color his forehead turns.
Pink = mildly hot Red = I'm not eating it Purple = give that man some dairy! (which can help lessen the heated feeling).

Thanks thartley for the "hot mama" link. I also found this article of interest on your link. http://www.happynews.com/...ing/thai-chili-pepper.htmDoes the restaurant next door to the ILC still dry their red chilies in a large circular tray in the sun? The chilies do quite well until a big gust of wind comes along. I'm like you, I had to watch my intake of chilies when I was in Thailand. I love hot and spicy, but I used caution when I was in Thailand.

Ah, I remember back in Middle School when I found some small red chilis in the cooking class fridge. I took some and almost ate one whole but decided to just take a small bite of the end. My mouth was burning for 15 minutes. I gave one to someone in my class and he ate a whole one. He then proceeded to throwing up in the bathroom and suffering for half an hour. Those were the days.

*sigh* yep, that reminds me of the time my uncle gave me some Beechnut chewing tobacco and told me at the age of 12 that I would definitely enjoy it. I put a bit of stem in my mouth and it burned for 10 minutes. Those were the days. I wish he had given me a chili instead.

Well, I decided to try asking for a little spice to my curry this last time. Dear usually makes my curry and she is now gone to Bangkok, so there is a new girl there, plus the owner lady. Dear would use these superhot red chilis. I have no idea what they are called, but even Laurie can't eat them and she is a chili freak. Anyway, the new curry was indeed hot. But that part was actually okay. The shocker was that they chilis they used in the newer curry were green and looked just exactly like a green bean, which is also in the curry. So guess who chomped and chewed up a whole green chili? LAurie said they weren't anywhere near as hot as the red ones, but my mouth burned so bad for so long, even around my mouth where I used my napkin to wipe my lips. But I will get it again... haha!!!

thartley, I found something good when I was there and it's a combination of crushed dried peppers, sugar and salt. They use it on fresh fruit. Have you had any? I'd love to have the recipe, if you can get it.

No, I have not seen or even heard of that yet. Where did you get it? At the hotel you were staying at or someplace else? When I got my mango shake at MutMee the girl there told me that they frequently make it with salt added and she had to tell them not to add the salt. I will keep an eye out for the combination you mentioned. What kind of fruit did they put it on? I have a watermelon at my room that I might could use that on.

I had the sugar and salt mixture with apples. I heard about this through a couple of American women I met while there. I also would sprinkle it on my fried rice when I'd see it in a restaurant. I think they put it on there fried rice at JBAC. I ate lunch at JBAC one day and had the best fried rice EVER.
