Hello everyone,

I just stumbled upon this site, and i am very excited. I have been looking for an organization like this for a long time.

A little bit about me:
I live in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. I currently taking few years off before attending Mcgill university in sept. 2009.
Im a 20 year old dude, looking for exciting things in the world.
hmmm some things i like:
motorycles
Visual arts (conceptual, Giger, very varied)
Reading ( Romance, speculative fiction, Xenoarcheological sci fi)
working out!
Traveling like a mad man

 the  list goes on....

I'm looking to volunteer from the end of Dec. 2008 until sometime in June-August of 2009.

I initially wanted to teach English in China, but cannot do that legally anymore as I don't yet have my BA Sad  Im not really down for doing it illegally as i have never done it before and don't know the ropes. I have been looking for a volunteer organization since then, and have only found hugely expensive travel type "volunteering".
I'm excited by Isara's programmes as i am an avid motorcycle rider who values safety, and have been involved with motorsports in Canada. I also just got my TESOL so i'm ready to teach away!

What are the chances of being accepted? I could make a commitment for over 6 months.

Cheers

Accepted?? Cheesy Isara pretty much takes anyone who volunteers!

If you'll look on this: http://www.isara.org/content/view/307/167/ the main thing is that you've got to get to Thailand! Grin

Also go to the contact page, and fire some questions away if you have any after reading the Volunteer page. Smiley

Thanks for posting all your interests! It's nice to have you on board! Did you really just stumble on us?? Grin Grin

I did in fact just stumble on you through idealist.org!

I'm honestly still in shock that i have already gotten very friendly responses, and that this programme actually exists! Cheesy

I think i will have many questions as i explore deeper.

I have been applying for jobs so im sorta still in competitive mode, im sorry haha Roll Eyes

I do however have a question:

what  are the average living expenses per month for basics (food, occasional transport)?

Thank you!
Max

That depends on if you stay at the Learning Center or if you choose to get an apartment offsite.

Check out the volunteer section where people have talked about their experiences, the most recent volunteer to return to America from Thailand is Terri and the most recent Canadian is Wes.

Terri lived offsite and Wes lived onsite, so if you post questions to them, they'd be able to provide the most accurate answers. Both are offline right now, but both check in pretty frequently. Hope that helps! Grin

A makalux is a fish, a big scary fish. So scary you might actually cry when you see one. It has big wings and a funny hat. Makaluxes have been in development in the secret US military bases for decades. Makalux happens to be a makalux, but welcome all the same. Try not to be too shocked in January, Ming, or you might hurt his feelings. I can't tell how I know this, top secret stuff you see.

Sort of but his wings are freakishly small for a makalux. Maybe he's still growing, he seems unnormally small otherwise too.
