This was a great idea by ZeroG.  I'll update it soon with PK's input.

Yeah, and maybe a version could be made to print as a hardcopy for future volunteers to have with them.... I would have found it very useful.  Still would. haha!!!!  I usually find out where I am going by accident.   Grin

This is a great idea, I could have used something like this when I was there. I was like thartley, I found everything by accident.  Grin Although, the 7/11's were always easy to find.  Grin I got lost, confused, and turned around more often than I can remember. Grin

Great job Sean, thanks. I'm looking forward to your updates.  Smiley

This is pretty interesting. But man the roads are weirdly constructed. It's like two main roads a main road with a bunch of dead ends sticking out of them. Nice variation. No wait, I looked at it again and it doesn't look weird anymore. Obviously I don't have photographic memory.

how much do you pay per month for your apartments?
and do they have A/C?
Is it noisy in that area or quiet?, ie: is it close to the street or set back closer to the river?

I pay 4500 baht for my room, it does have a/c.  Its very quiet where I am, I face the river.  I am also on the top floor, so I dont get a lot of ground noise.  I dont know what it might be like elsewhere.  But no barking dogs, if that is what you are asking. haha!!!

The most noise seems to come from neighbors on this floor who dont know how to open and close their entry door without first pulling it off its hinge before slamming it shut with undue force. At 1:00am.  But its okay.  I can live with that.  Smiley

Yep its 4500, and then a mandatory 300 baht for cable.  Electircity+Water is around 1500 or so if you use the A/C when your home.  All of that is about 200$ USD per month with an incredible view.

ZeroG-  That Google Earth shot is awesome, and you don't know how stoked I am that I placed the pins almost dead on. Grin  I had moved the ILC pin about 10 times before I settled on that spot because it was hard to tell using just the streets.  The ILC is the building just to the right of the giant Blue building (LA Bicycles).

Can we get MutMee on there?  And possibly OJ's?  Although OJ's is very tiny.

This is very cool!

Yep, I need to figure out which side street mutmee is first.  That one is hard to find without looking first.

Get Google Earth! It is free. And a great learning tool. I just helped my son study the political boundaries of Africa tonight with it.

Pohui could use google maps to map out his travels. Really nice. I used it to find a better meeting spot for our van pool. I have also used it to pin point the location of lots of pictures I have taken on my travels around the world.

Unfortunatley Thartley I have far too much debt right now to come back to Nongkhai plus I still have another month of school left before I can get my real estate licence so it looks like it will not be until 2009 at the earliest that I can come back to Nongkhai... I miss the ILC.
Thanks for the info on the apartments, it might be accommodations I will consider next time I come to Thailand for an extended period.

Thanks ZeroG for the great photo. I can say from experience that everything you see is within walking distance. I've walked from where Sean and Terri are living to the ILC several times. There's a 7/11 on the way to the ILC.

Ginafish, I think the large white building stores bicycles. While I was there I saw several large trucks come into, or leave, their drive and it looked like a load of bicycles. But, then again, every thing is so confusing when you're there, you don't really know what's going on at the time.  Grin
The owners of the bicycle shop live above their store and have a very modern and beautiful residence. It's very common for the shop owners to live above their shops.
PK could probably give you better info.  Cheesy
