Here are some photos from Sunday's clean-up. There were about 50 students that came out to help and they did a great job cleaning up the whole market area.

Thank you to the students and teachers of Nong Khai Witayakarn School for helping make this project a success.

We have two more clean-up projects scheduled for this Thursday and Saturday. Stay tuned...

Hey we just got back from our third day of project "Clean Up Nong Khai" whooohoo. We went to a small school and had the 12-15yr. old students clean up all the trash on the school grounds and just outside on the main road. It looks a lot cleaner, and hopefully they all learned something and they will keep their school cleaner from now on...

Very good. I'm sure Jen is so happy doing the projects and have the conversation with all the Thai students. And they'll learn a lot more to care.

It was a great morning (but very hot). Here are some photos from todays activity. The students did a great job!

Note: Jen has picked-up A LOT of trash in the past week. Because of this she has been given a new Thai name. They call her, "Hua-jai Yai Gab Tung Yai". Which means, "Big Heart with Big Trash Bag". lol

Note the lack of exclamation points in Jen's quote? I think Jen is getting tired, when is her next festival fun day? Grin She needs some fun fresh air time! And although her nickname involves trash bags, I think it might be better than 'Helmet Guy'. Grin Grin Grin Might...but might not. Wink

She might feel better if you tell them her nickname is just too big of a mouthful (and we American's can't begin to pronounce it) so maybe just 'Big Heart' will suffice.  Cool

We had another Clean-up on Saturday morning. It was the best yet!

This time we went to a small village outside of Nong Khai. There were about 60 students, ages 5 to 12, interested in picking-up trash at their school and village. The village had A LOT of trash but, after only an hour, it was beautiful again.

Practical question: what happens with the trash once it's collected??

Sociology question: Are the students competitive too see who picks up more, or is it generally a relaxed time for all?

And THANK You! For posting such great pictures!

Just got back from another school. This time we found a village far from Nong Khai. The entire school had only 52 students but they were the most enthusiastic group we've ever seen. They got right to work, picking up trash. After a little more than an hour they had picked up about 60 bags worth of trash. They did great and we're very proud of them all. But enough of my yapp'n! Here are the pics.

The last photo says it all. Grin

That last photo is positively adorable!! Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish in an hour! They'll also be more conscious of litter where ever they see it now. (For at least two weeks!) This project is great!

No updates on this project but something happened this evening that was some-what related.

This evening Jen and I decided to take the puppy to the park. While walking around we noticed A TON of trash. Still in "Project: Pick-up the Trash" mode, Jen and I started picking up some trash as we walked the dog.

After a short while a young girl noticed what we were doing and started helping pick up trash too. Then a young man and his little brother started picking up trash. After 15 minutes, with our hands full of bags of trash, we started walking back to the motorcycle. Along the way another little girl and boy started picking up trash with us. Then, when we had almost reached the motorcycle, a group of teenagers started helping too.

I can't tell you how amazing it felt to see the ripple effect as more and more people got involved.

The only problem with spontaneous projects like this is that there's usually no camera around to take pictures. lol

He! I'm glad you asked first, Kitkat. Smiley Is this the same puppy/dog that went to the country for a while? Is it back now? And did it have a helmet on for its motorcycle ride? Cheesy

And that's awesome what walking the dog turned into! A spontaneous pick up trash project!

Same dog but MUCH bigger now. Jen will be taking him back to the states with her in a few weeks. Hmmm A Thai dog living in Seattle, wonder if he'll suffer from any culture shock?

Great news with 2 surprises, Puppy is coming to the USA! Whohoo!   And you had another successful, quick pick up trash project!
Jen's really fond of that little, or not so little, guy! Wink
He'll be a great dog in Seattle! It'll seem a little like Nongkhai too, b/c of all the rain in Seattle. Cheesy

Niceness. It's great how the kids went out to take a proactive step towards helping their community, and that they're educated on the impact of littering.

I noticed the new video portal too, very nice add-on to the Isara online community. I was watching some trailers on it the other day. Smiley
