They have really come a long way.  No matter what I did I could almost never get them to smile before.  It was incredible how good they were at simply staring at you with a blank face.  No matter what I said/asked in Thai they wouldn't respond.

Today! however they came by and I was the only person at the ILC.  They walked over and said hello!....well they wai'ed at least.  I asked them "len computer mai?" Do you want to play on the computers?  They quickly nodded and SMILED which was awesome.  You wouldn't think that in the "land of smiles" this would be so special, but if you had met these girls one month ago you would never have believed this interaction was possible.

I was really worried that they would be ostracized when they went back to school, and that they wouldn't like it, but they are making new friends and socializing which is so great for them.

We visited Gik and Guk's school and here are some pics. The teachers said the two of them are doing great. They both looked VERY happy. Well as happy as students can look in school. lol

Visited Gik and Guk's school again today. Their teachers said they're both doing very well.

Gik and Guk (and a school friend of theirs) have been visiting the ILC a lot lately. They all three ride one bicycle all the way from their home, which is on the other side of town, just so they can play games or watch cartoons.

We've all noticed that Gik and Guk are much more confident and comfortable around people now and we're certain it's because they're back in school. They talk more, ask more questions, and smile a lot more too.  Yesterday they wanted to watch the Christmas movie ELF with Will Ferrell. Afterwards they found some Christmas decorations and started decorating the palm trees outside the ILC.

I'm happy that she's smiling a lot more now. Look like they're more happy.   Funny that after the movie we don't know where the kids went but Pk walk outside and saw them decorating the trees. Cute!

Gik and Guk visited the ILC this weekend and they had some GREAT news to share. They told us that Gik is #5 in her class and Guk is #4. There's more than 30 students in each class so that really shows how great they are doing. Everyone is VERY proud of them and we're trying to think of something special we can do for them. If you have any ideas let us know.

This is wonderful news!!!  Maybe you could take them to Swensen's for the biggest ice cream sundae they've EVER had!!      Don't know, is it a good thing today to reward kids with high calorie desserts?   Is there a child psychologist here?  Help??

Congratulations Gik and Guk, excellent work!  Keep it up, we're so proud of you!

You know, the fact that they had not attended school at all for over two years and had to play CATCH UP just to get to the level of everyone else in class speaks clearly of how hungry these girls are to learn and do well.  I am so happy and proud of them both.  Their father deserves something as well.  He has had to overcome some pretty great adversity while raising two such wonderful daughters on his own, and caring enough to accept help on their behalf.  They are an amazing family.
