Recently, while standing in front of the ILC, we saw a Thai man and his two daughters collecting plastic to sell. After giving him all our plastic we asked the two girls where they studied. The father said they don't go to school and haven't for about two years. He explained that there were some problems in his family (his wife is gone, he moved to a new town, and they didn't have money for books and uniforms). We let him know that if he wants his girls, Gik and Guk, to go back to school Isara would arrange everything and take care of all the expenses. The father was very interested and the next day he came back to provide us with all their school documents.

Last week Isara had a meeting with the Principle of a nearby school and the school has officially invited Gik and Guk to be students there. They both haven't studied in a classroom for a long time, so Isara is teaching them basic Thai, Math, Computers, and English for two hours a day, until the new school term starts in May. That way they can get comfortable with a classroom environment and also so they won't be too far behind the rest of the students.

The first few months are going to be very difficult for Gik and Guk but they know that everyone here at Isara believes in them and supports them. We will keep you updated on their progress through-out the year.

Gik and Guk are very sweet children!  Very soft-spoken and very good students.  They counted their numbers out loud so well I thought they were long-time students here.  I am glad Isara is able to help them get back into school and I hope to see them around here later in the week.

Awesome Opportunity! I hope to see more pictures of Gik and Guk Smiley I'm glad that the ILC's schedule allows for this and that the dad was compassionate about his children's education. Grin

Yes, they're very good students. They're still a little shy but getting better now. We're very happy that we can help them go back to school that would change their future forever. Smiley Thank you very much Isara!

Excellent project Isara! Thanks for showing how a little bit of effort can do a lot of good. This really shows how scholarships are needed there, and they are not like the college scholarships we think of in the US, but just basic education scholarships for young people.

BTW: Ming, your English has really improved!

Lol, I remember Pk and KitKat posing in front of the skeletons just like that. I'm so glad the girls got to go to the park with you all. I hope there is somewhere you can print the picture and give it to their dad. He probably doesn't see them smile too much either. I'm so glad Isara is helping them! I think they'll do great in school since they've had so much support! Grin Grin Grin

What a HUGE day for Gik and Guk today!  Isara was able to help their father get them registered for school and they will start classes tomorrow.  We all met with the Headmaster, were shown to the classrooms, got their books, and bought their new uniforms...TWO SETS EACH, including shoes and socks for $60!   Shocked  I was able to get lots of pictures, and what a day it was!

(As ugly as this is, I have to tell you that without your support of this website and your clicks, PK sometimes has turned to "more creative" methods of financing)   Lips sealed

Even though by this time, the girls were no doubt hot and tired, they were having fun with each other.   Cheesy

Finally, it was time to go....

And next stop was for NEW uniforms!!!!  Cool  The guy who works in here that you see helping to fit Guk is the same guy who was the DJ that helped us record the Public Service Announcement a couple of weeks ago for the Clean-Up Thailand Campaign...and they give us a discount on uniforms for students who are awarded scholarships through Isara.  Smiley

Sometimes in the course of shooting footage, I have to ask PK what someone is saying because, quite frankly, my Thai is not so good yet.  But I dont think much translation is needed in this next one...

Tomorrow is going to be another big day for Gik and Guk as they return to school for the first time in two years, and it is because of your visits to Isara and your clicks and your generosity above all, that you sitting there at home halfway across the world even, can touch the lives of an entire family and bring such a wonderful gift to their lives.

Gik, Guk, and their father visited us this weekend. They wanted to help cut the weeds that have been growing out of control on the ILC property.

Within an hour the place looked a lot better! Thank you, Gik, Guk, and their father.

Yes, that was very nice of them. They came to the ILC early and start to cleaning up
and I asked the girl about their new school and friends, they said they like it a lot there studying with teachers and making new friends. And they look really happy while I'm talking to them.
We'll sometime go to visit them at their school and capture some pics for everyone. Smiley
