So it's an old room, just still used, eh? I can imagine your surprise! I once walked by an operating room with a window while they were doing a facelift. EwwWW!

Just wanted to update everyone on what's happening with this project.

For the past 2-3 months we have been teaching the massage nurses every Tuesday and Thursday and the Emergency Room nurses every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The ER nurses schedules are irregular so they're unable to study on a regular basis. But the class for the massage nurses is great! Yesterday almost every one of them showed up for class (15 students). Best of all, they're all very interested in learning English. They can now have a complete conversation about massage and answer any question a foreigner might have. I'm very proud of them.

I think one of the first jobs Sean will have when he arrives next week will be to do a test "walk through" with the massage nurses. He'll owe me BIG TIME for that one.

This class is a lot of fun to teach. Sometimes I think we're doing more laughing than studying.

The nurses aren't wearing their uniforms, I guess Isara is such a big hit, they're coming on their off hours to learn.

That's a great class size! And I'm glad they laugh and enjoy themselves. If learning isn't fun, then why bother to learn?

My massage therapist at the chiropractor told me to make sure I experience a thai massage while I am there.  Then she very quickly added that I should make sure I am clear that I want a therapeutic massage!  I checked online and found that if you want a "normal person's" massage, you should ask for an "old lady" massage.  Otherwise, they might think its something else.

Are these classes going to be an ongoing project?  I would love to still be able to be involved with this one.

I told them that you'd be arriving in a few months. So we will probably stop teaching them in about two weeks and then have a break for 3 months. By that time some of them will have forgotten the English they had studied, so that's when you'll come in and do some refresher courses. lol

In order to leave the class, they have to understand and follow through "Rub my right shoulder" "Rub my left foot" "Massage my scalp" "Soften my hands with lotion" "Paint my toenails"

T. you must have a Thai Foot/leg Massage (not the hospital kind) while you're in Nongkhai.  They're incredible. I was so relaxed after mine, I could hardly walk.
If you're smart, which I know you are, get one a month! Cost only about $12 U.S.dollars plus tip. for over an hour of massage and they serve tea. Go to the one in the Tesco Shopping Mall near the Tip Hotel.

KitKat - $12?!?! That seems like so much money to me now. Oh well, now that we teach the massage nurses, thartley can get an even better price on a massage. Free is good.

  You're exactly right, FREE is better! You didn't have the influence, when I was there, you have now with the hospital staff.

How far is the Tesco mall thingy from the ILC?  Is it walkable?  And how about the hospital?

T. I can answer this one.  The hospital is walkable and the ILC also provides you with a Pink & White Pokadot bicycle, or Blue & White Pokadot, is you want. You can walk it easily. There's a 7/11 right across the street from the hospital and that is where I got my coffee every morning and then I'd walk to the ILC.
Tesco is right next to the Tip Hotel where I stayed. From the ILC you'll need to take a tuk-tuk to the Tesco Mall.

Today Sean helped teach the nurses class. It was a lot of fun. I think Sean will be going back next week to get a free massage. lol

Isara was invited to a Rescue Training course at the local hospital today. It was a lot of fun (as always) and we learned a lot about what to do and what NOT to do when providing first aid to accident victims.



* That's a pair of scissors in his chest. I hope that's not a common problem in Thailand.

  PK, great photos, they look very qualified to take care of any emergency, especially the scissors accident.  How could that happen?

PK, that sounds like a very good training course, but I'm sorry....I would be of no use in the case of an accident.  Unless someone could act as interpreter for me on those slides!  LOL!
