I think this is awesome PK. I love seeing Isara branch out. I made my first donation. Hopefully, we'll get a tour once it's done!

Thanks, Hunter. That was very kind of you. We just received notice of your donation.

A video tour will be the first thing we do. Grin

Sadly not as kind as Isara deserves, just as kind as I can afford right this minute.

Just make sure they guy you pay the rent to, is the actual owner of the place. Not a given assumption in Thailand.

He is definitely the owner. His family owns an even larger house just a few doors down. Also, the owners of the mall (and the college where I taught) are related to them. We've been asking a lot of questions around town and negotiating this for the past few weeks. Strangely enough the owner was one of the men in a river rafting boat we took while near the Burma border a few months back. He's a nice guy.

There will actually be three webcams (take a deep breath, Ginafish). One pointed at the server racks, one in the classroom, and one pointed outside onto main street. Can't guarantee they'll all operate 24/7 but at least you've got better odds.

His new digs appear to have a window unit on the top floor above the carport. Woohoo! AC is something he doesn't currently have, and it gets sweltering hot there and will even more once he gets those servers up and running...

Southern Girls know that AC is ImPerAtive!!

That window unit will be like gold come summertime!

PK, I know you said sometimes the wiring is a bit "not quite up to code" shall we say.  Is this place suitably wired to accomodate the juice requirements?

(ya know, maybe this has already been covered in an Acorn Blog somewhere--I should look.)

As Ginafishes keen eye noticed, the new place has air conditioning in one room (which will most likely house ACORN). Our current location has great air con but we rarely use it because we're on the 4th floor and get a good breeze. The problem is we can't do much with our current space. It's just one room and people will most likely run-away when I invite them to study English in my room (although it seemed to have worked on Ming - j/k). Also we can't do anything to fix the electricity here since the building has no electrical "ground".  The new home has typical wiring but it's MUCH easier to fix (just pay an electrician $20 and it will be perfect). Were very excited. The new house will be a clean slate to work with and we can make it into whatever we want. Freedom!!!

It also has a great location (near the Police Station, hospital, Red Cross, two markets, plenty of restaurants) and it's on a main street that gets lots of traffic. I know for sure that once the doors open that people will come to learn. Also, once foreigners know that they can come here and volunteer then we should have a steady amount of volunteers coming through. Thartley, we'll put you and your daughter's names on the list. Grin

I'll upload some photos of the inside soon. Thanks for all your support everyone.

Over the past two days we've received some generous donations from B. Green (a long time Isara supporter) and G Wiz. We also received a donation from K. Deckard.

Keep in mind that no donation is too small. Even $5 or $10 will help.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. Fairly soon you'll be able to see what your generosity has created.

I'd like to donate, but don't have anything, or know how.
