$3.45 at a local 7-11.  I think they have up to 10% ethanol though.

I think in Europe, what Americans consider high (anything over $3) has been the standard for many years now because of taxes being about 75% of the cost. If I'm not mistaken, the price of fuel there has always been at least $4 more per gallon there than here. But Americans still shell out more for gas in the long run b/c we have more fuel inefficient vehicles.

Good news here, gas went down to $3.89 from $3.99 for regular.  Tongue

Ginafish,  I went to England and Scotland in 2000 and at that time we were paying the equivalent of $1/liter or about $3.80/gallon... I have heard of some truckers in the UK going on strike because of the high gas prices... dont feel too bad about U.S. gas prices... we are paying almost $5/gallon in Canada and thats in the cheaper range.... what gets me is that a lot of the oil that the U.S. imports is from my province(Alberta) and we still pay more for it domestically...  Huh Angry
I filled up my mazda 3 today and it only takes 55 liters(14.5gal) and it cost me$72!!!! can you believe it?  I feel bad for my dad he had a big diesel truck with like a 150 L tank... and diesel costs more than premium gas!

Sean.... yeah i remember filling up that motorcycle once a week for like $2... it only has a 4 liter gas tank... and thats if they jam it to near overflowing.... lol  that little motorbike was awesome it is so fuel effecient... ah such good memories of Thailand.... Cheesy

You also have to look at the economy, though. It might seem like Americans are better off but, with the amount of money the average US citizen earns a year, 2-3 a gallon is plenty, especially with the cars we drive. (Although I am not complaining about fuel efficiency, I just stared fixing up my 1979 trans am and love it.) You have to balance out the different factors. I would give you my take on how to lower gas prices, but most people get angry when I do.

I wonder if insurance rates will go down now that people are driving less, getting in fewer accidents, etc...

I hate it when US people complain about high gas prices. Like supea, I live in Finland and the price is about 1.60 euros per liter. One gallon is 3.78541 liters. That multiplied with 1.6 is 6 euros and 5 cents. Currently one euro is 1.5668 dollars so 6.05 euros is 9.48 dollars. So just stop it, we're paying over twice as much Angry

While I'm ranting, I'll compalin about grocery prices too. A 2 liter bottle of Coke is like two dollars in the US. Here that would be like 3 euros which would be like 4.5 dollars. Your lives are cheap, stop complaining about "high" prices.[/rant]

Feels so good to get that of my chest.

I understand you are feeling the pain, but our economies are different. You can't base comparisons just off of dry exchange rates. Yes, you pay more, but your economy allows for that. I understand it is outrageous, but for us and out economy THIS is outrageous. If we had the same prices our do, our country would cripple.

Oh yeah? Watch me. I think it's really.. well..

Anyway, it's still really annoying on an individual basis. Logically thinking, you should have no problems with a bit higher prices since, while the average incomes may not be the same here and there, the prices are still much more favorable on your side when relatevily compared to the incomes. While someone here might not be able to buy something, eg. a soda, at all, you're just forced to buy a bit less stuff over there. At least that's my biased, badly thought out opinion. I might attempt to illustrate my point better later, when it's not 4am.

Don't get me wrong, Mus., you have good points. What I am trying to do is show that we Americans DO have the right to complain. Let me illustrate this:

1) Gas prices go up because of greedy oil companies and Government failure to:
     A) Drill in America
     B) Invest in alternatives to Saudi oil

2) Greedy oil companies keep punching by:
     A) Raising prices; making record profits
     B) Preventing us from making more fuel efficient vehicles

3) Prices of goods sky rocket because of gas prices

4) Americans cut back on driving and purchasing of assorted goods

5) Economy sees a drastic decline

6) Political instability over topics like war and illegal immigration put a halt to fixing the oil crisis

7) Economy finally kneels over as we fall into recession

RESULT: It's the 1930's all over again and America  is no longer the top world power
