Today at the ILC we watched a news report about a guy in the US who beat the World's Record for longest continuous Karaoke singing. He sang for 39 hours. After viewing it PK jumped up and proclaimed, "I can't sing well, but I can beat that!!!" The next thing we knew I was submitting an application for a World's Record online and PK was trying to decide what songs to sing and clothes to wear. lol  Oh, and Jennie was saying, "I want to sing too!"

It will take 4-6 weeks for Guinness World Records to approve the request so we have tentatively scheduled the World Record event for Aug. 1st, 2008 at the Isara Learning Center in Nong Khai, Thailand. The entire 40 hours will be viewable on a live streaming webcam we'll have setup and, of course, we'll be taking requests for songs.

This event will be done in the spirit of fun (although it won't be fun for others to hear PK sing - he couldn't carry a tune even with a bucket). But mainly the event is to raise awareness/money for our charity (people can sponsor an hour of karaoke or can request songs for a donation).  Let us know if you have any ideas.

UPDATE: Here's a preliminary list of the songs available. Once the final list is complete we'll start accepting requests.

'My Heart Will Go On'? Cheesy Only if PK leans his arms out with a fan blowing his 'mane' back Titanic Style, ya hear? Grin

Hmm...Thai songs? We may have to set a percentage on that front... 30% Thai, 60% English, and 10% Swedish (then Jennie can get her friends to chip in!) Grin

What is this nonsense? In the words of our math teacher in before the school's Amazing Race type competition thing:

Quote from:  Math teacher
We're not here to have fun, we're here to win

And of course he was being totally serious too. Ahem. Yeah.

30% Thai, 60% English, and 10% Swedish (then Jennie can get her friends to chip in!) Grin

Don't forget finnish, it's such a beautiful language after all. Song request pending.

My first request..."Wind Beneath my wings".

I would think that it would have to be true karaoke style, the screen in front, and the bad mic ringing in everyone's ears.

Once GWR gets and processes the application, they will send a packet of info to us with all the rules and guidelines.  For it to count as a record in their book, we have to do this their way. So for now, we wait and see.  And plan....

Another song with a stipulation. Pk must dedicate it to ZeroG and sing it the Divine Ms M style = False Eyelashes!

Just in case...Free online Karaoke Mp3s should help warm up his vocal cords. I say start with the Christmas classics, and then rinse and repeat. Hopefully, when sleep deprived at hour 27, he won't mess up the lyrics. Grin

He will only be taking limited breaks for bathroom needs. No time for costume changes....sorry.  hmmm, unless we make them like theatrical quick changes.

I suggested he wear a helmet, so if he fell over midway, he would have his noggin protected.

This is so cool!  I'm really curious what their rules are.
You'll have to have people poke you or something to keep you awake.
40 hours is a REALLY long time!
Almost 2 days.
Maybe you should train in "staying awake" as well as in "making continuous karaoke noises."

Just sing the "This is the song that doesn't end" from Lamb Chop's Play along. You won't even need song selection.

Thanks for everyone's support. Grin

We're currently looking into ways to stream the live audio and video (at the very least there will be live audio). We'll eventually do tests and let you know when to check it out.

Unfortunately, not every song is available in Karaoke form so we'll need to have everyone select their song from a looooooooong list of available Karaoke songs. Don't worry, there's something for everyone. And I've already prepared myself for having to sing songs like "It's Raining Men" and "Dancing Queen". Anything for charity. lol

If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep the vocal chords from hurting please let me know.
