How does Isara pay for expenses?

When people first realize that Isara gives 100% of it's revenue to charity projects, almost everyone has the same question, "But how do you survive?"

To explain, in detail, we have provided some specific financial information about Isara and its expenses. All of this information is true.

Rent: FREE! - Ok, technically it's not free, but the expense is not deducted from the website revenue. Isara.org is located in the Isara Learning Center (ILC) in Nong Khai, Thailand. PK Gillock, the Founder of Isara, and other volunteers live at this facility. It costs $300/mo for rent (our biggest expense) and another $75/mo for utilities. Volunteers staying at the ILC help pay part of the rent during their stay. The rest of the bills are paid for by donations from friends and family (thanks, Mom!). This means 100% of revenue made from the site does not go to this expense. Therefore more money can go to those who really need it.

Staff: FREE! - Everyone involved is a volunteer. People locally and internationally volunteer their time and services so that Isara can continue its projects. We are always grateful for our volunteers dedication and generosity.

Website: FREE! - A friend of Isara was kind enough to take care of the Bluehost webhosting fees of $8/mo. The website itself was designed by the founder of Isara (a web designer in a previous life) and maintained by numerous individuals who donate their time.

Miscellaneous: FREE! - We're not going to lie, there are a lot of expenses to create and operate these charity projects. Some of the Thai volunteers need gas for motorcycles or copies need to be made for fliers. This stuff isn't "free". But these minor expenses are paid for by the founder of Isara from money he makes teaching or designing websites. NOT from revenue or donations generated by Isara.

We stand firm to the fact that each visitor to Isara makes a difference. There are no middle-men taking a small percentage of revenue. Each visit helps and each donation goes directly to those who need it.  We hope to continue this policy as long as you continue to visit.
