This is pretty good and informative.  I've not done any fact-checking but its still pretty good stuff to keep in mind and consider in your water decisions. http://storyofstuff.org/bottledwater/

I agree and think our bottled water consumption is out of control.  I have noticed the water bottles are now being manufactured using a much thinner plastic.    However, this does not eliminate the huge supply of empty water bottles filling our landfills.  :(    I was very disappointed to see recycled water bottles from California being shipped to India and placed in their landfills.  :(  Sad very sad.

    Thartley, thanks for the link.

Yeah, I noted that shipping of empties to India as well.  I'm sure there is money being exchanged for this somehow, but still....

One thing I consider bottled water good for is if I am going on trips and need to carry it with me, and Florida's lovely hurricane season pretty much necessitates the purchase of some amount of bottled water as a precaution.  I learned the hard way through more than one violent storm system that if the water goes out, it could be days and weeks before its back on and when it does cam back, sometimes its not so drinkable.  :P

It's really a shame they can't package water in cardboard cartons for quick decomposition.

I grow my own water at home.
