Hi Jenia and Aaron!!
We just got back from Bangkok. Give me a day or so to catch up on some things and I'll send you both some e-mails real soon. But both of your arrival dates sound great so we should have available space for you.
Thanks for wanting to help! Look forward to meeting you this summer.
February 4, 2010 2:58 PM PST
I'm sure we will get along just fine Aaron:-)
February 4, 2010 10:59 PM PST
Looking forward to it for sure! Yeah I'm easy enough to get along with once I speak up, I might be shy the first day we meet :D
Meeting with my advisor late next week to try to hammer out some ideas for projects.
Oh yeah and I saw that news broadcast about Isara that was posted on the boards, that was excellent. Great to see coverage :)
February 10, 2010 6:34 AM PST
Hey Jenia and Aaron! I will be at Isara for the from July 1-24... Can't wait to meet you both!

I am a 22 year old MFA student in Kansas. I intend on volunteering in Thailand this summer. If you guys have any openings, I would be more than happy to come over and assist in whatever way I can. I currently teach ENG 011 in my University and I have had a lot of prior teaching experience including teaching English in South Korea. Thanks

Looking forward to meeting you too Karah! Kirk, just wondering if you recieved my reply to the e-mail you sent to me Tuesday evening?
February 11, 2010 12:50 PM PST
hey Aaron, where were you in Korea? I taught English in Korea during the summer of '08 so I visited a lot of cities.

timetraveler - Welcome! And thanks for wanting to help and for registering on the forum. Typically, if people make the extra effort of registering on the forum, we tend to make the extra effort to make room for them to volunteer. lol
Have a lot to do today so I'll probably be sending you an e-mail sometime this weekend. Thanks again!!
jenia - Hi! ;D Got it and sent a reply yesterday. Check your inbox or junk mail folder.
Aarontendo - Hope you got the e-mail I sent to you a few days ago. Check your spam folder if not.

Thank you very much Kirk. I look forward to spending the summer with the Isara community. Thanks again.
February 13, 2010 7:54 PM PST
Heya all =)
Yep got the email Kirk, replying n taking care of that tonight! First day off I've had to catch up on email and such. Lots of reading about public policy and such, what fun ;p
Timetraveler...taught there for three years. Was in Seoul for one portion of that time, and then down in Gumi (near Daegu). Had a lotta great times, a few bad ones, but all in all a positive experience. I really do enjoy working in education, it's the hardest part for me in my MPA studies is knowing I'll be transitioning out of it somewhat =(
February 13, 2010 11:26 PM PST
Ah Gyeongju, yeah went there a couple of times for teacher training. The traditional style roofs n what-not. Spent quite a bit of time in Daegu, where else would I get my Krispy Kreme donuts! Busan was neat too, lotta things to do there...beach paled in comparison to Thailand tho but c'mon whose doesn't right?
February 16, 2010 6:49 AM PST
Yeah, they would definitely pale in comparison to the beaches in Thailand. In Busan, I was more amazed by the number of people on the beach than the actual beach itself. I have never seen so many people on one beach...at the same time. It was insane.

Hi lain - Yes, I sent an e-mail on 1/23 but it might have been considered junk mail because we had a problem with a lot of our e-mails being filtered by some providers. Our IT guy (hillscott) made some changes to our e-mail server last week which should have fixed some of the problems. I'll send you the e-mail again.
So you'll be here for the Song Kran festival (April 12th-15th)? You're going to have A LOT of fun!!!
I'd like to apologize to everyone who submitted an application, prior to January 25th. We lost ALL of our e-mails and volunteer applications for the past 9 months in a computer crash. We've now got a better system in place, but we're still struggling to find out who applied and who was accepted. If you applied before 1/25 and you never heard back from us, please apply again.
Sorry for the inconvenience and confusion.

Hello everyone! I was unsure how to create a new post with my question, but maybe its ok if I just put it on here :)
For the Korea travelers- I spent 2 months in Korea doing a volunteer project at Sanan Village (right near Baran, about 1 hour outside of Seoul); it was absolutely amazing! I explored Korea and loved the country (and the food!)The people I met everywhere were so nice too :)
I'm really looking forward to volunteering with Isara- if anyone could help me on this: I'm looking to arrive in Nong Khai sometime in April or May, but not sure of the exact dates yet. How much advance notice should I give Isara of my plans? And how can I confirm my volunteer arrangement?
If there is a best time for me to arrive in May, just let me know! My plans are very tentative... actually, they are non-plans! I'm just going with it :)

I just want to extend my help to anyone who is thinking of volunteering at Isara... Im in Alberta, Canada and I always have time to answer e-mails and questions people have about Isara...
I returned from my second trip working with Isara in Dec 2009 and have been to Thailand 3 times so I will help anyone with their plans and questions if I can.
February 18, 2010 7:45 PM PST
Thanks for the reply,Kirk!
And M3R1IN: I may definitely take you up on that, and send you some questions about your volunteer experiences in the near future :) thanks!

My cousin and I sent an application and we are so excited and eager to participate in your great program! We were wondering if you've got the chance to review our application. We really don't want to give up the hope of being accepted.
You've done such beautiful work and we would really like to be part of it! It's really inspiring!
