I kindof feel like when I took a math test in school and there was always that kid who finished the test first, while I was still working on the first problem.

Makes you feel any better, I was the kid who forget we'd had a test. :)

I was the kid who always asked if he could borrow a #2 pencil.

Okay, after the #2 pencil bit...I have to confess.
I knew we had a test, and didn't study. I finished first. I had 3 #2 pencils because some jock would always ask to borrow one, and then the beauty queen would. I was the quiet smart kid. I graduated with a full paid scholarship, but opted for a different school I had to pay for and finally learned how to study for tests. I never learned how to study in high school, so studying 12 hours for a regular test really shocked me. Studying a week for mid-terms and finals really burst my bubble.

And I still don't want to know my personal stats from the folding@home but, I noticed Isara did have 16 computers, so I wondered who else had used the Isara username besides myself.

Ginafish - 16 is the number of Work Units that's been completed. The computer I'm on now uses the Isara username and has completed 11 Work Units. The other 5 must have come from people using Isara as their username.

Well, my laptop has been work for a while, but I have a 5 day WU loaded, so it won;t show for a few days. :(

I am not familiar with the folding algorithm, but I do know a lot about graphics languages. Most graphics lanquage support multiple visual representations of the display scene at the flick of a switch. It doesn't seem suss at all, from a graphics perspective.

I dont even know what "suss" is...so I will just agree with ZeroG.  ;D

And I just saw that my current WU is another 5,000 thingy.  :-\  This will take me another forever to complete. I started out with a 5,000 WU and it took me almost a week.  Then I got a 500.  woohoo!!  Now, I got another 5,000.

Oh well.... I think I can, I think I can......

thartley - You're not alone. There's 4 PCs here working on 5,000 frame Work Units each. And one has a 20,000 frame Work Unit. Yikes! They're slow computers so it takes a loooooooong time. The Pentium4 2.4GHz computer we have at the Learning Center usually finishes a Work Unit every 2 days and my laptop every 3 days.

I'd like to welcome Cynic821 to the Isara F@H Team. He just completed his first Work Unit and, from the looks of his points, he has either a really quick PC or a PS3.

Check out how much our team ranking has jumped in the past week alone. We went from having about 4,000 points to more than 10,000 and from a ranking of 15,000 to a ranking of 9,000. Not too shabby.

Also, we'd like to welcome Eivind to the Isara Team. Thanks for helping out!

I'm not sure what size Work Unit I'm working on...but it looks like a whopper. I have yet to finish it. I'm beginning to think my computer is extra slow.

    That's a whopper! ;D

How long has it been working on it? Did you set the CPU usage very low during the setup process?

So is my work unit really 500,000?  :D It's been working on it off and on since March 24th! That's why I haven't finished any yet! *wipes sweat off brow* I was beginning to think my poor Mac was going to have to apologize to Hunter.  ;) :D ;D

Do you mean 5,000,000? ;D  I think the text console uses "steps" instead of frames, like the graphic version uses. They're measured differently. Not sure. But you might want to consider switching to the graphic version for the Mac. The GUI version is easier to configure and monitor. You'll lose all the work you've done so far but, let's face it, you won't finish that Work Unit for another two months anyway. ;D

Do you leave your computer on when you're not using it? If you leave it on while sleeping you might see a huge increase in the amount of work it does since it will dedicate all its CPU usage to just Folding.

Oh, would you look at that...my tired eyes missed the number by 4,500,000... But hey! I've got 335,000 under my belt...and um...they need someone to handle these big proteins, you know...like super computers...so um...I'm just gonna hold on to this protein till it's done. We'll see if it takes 2 months. :D

I do leave it on during the day when I'm not using it, but since it's in my bedroom, I turn it off at night. I can barely stand to have the illumination from my clock light much less any glowing green peripherals...

The interesting thing is (maybe interesting) is that I am working on the same protein  (p3040 Supervillin-03) but mine also says Gromacs Core.  Mine is a 5000, but I'm wondering if the graphic version (which I am using) might be rounding the WU to the nearest thousandth, making 5M look like 5,000.

If not, Gina got a whopper!

And you just did! Congratulations!!! ;D

Stasven has hit the 4,000 points mark in just one week. That's incredible! We need to find more people with PS3's. Anyone got any ideas on how to do that?

Surely there are some ps3 users at GTAforum? Isn't that where half the Isara forum disappeared to? To go play their new Ps3s?

    Goodness!

    I'm starting to think I need a PS3 in my office! ;D

BTW, Ginafish, no need for your Mac to apologize. ;)

Stasven has just completed 20 Work Units!!

Does anyone else know someone with a PS3?  Someone who can give Stasven a run for his money. lol ;D

I'm going to approach several Internet Cafe's in the area and try to get them involved. We're also going to invite some local schools and colleges to help out. They have computer labs with 50-100 computers. If we can just get my old school, JBAC, to do it. WOW!

Dont get too comfortable there, Stas...my mean machine is very close to slam dunking this 5000 WU (4078/5000 complete).  If the hamster inside my tower didnt get tired of running in the wheel to keep it all going so lightning fast, I'd be where you are now.  bwahahaha!!!!

I overheard someone at work, a benefit of the open-space office concept, talking about his PS3. I asked him about it, and he mentioned folding@home on his own. I asked him to join our team and he just showed up last night: mercellusb

He doesn't let his machine run 24/7, so he will not be as productive as Stasven, but he will be more productive than us hampster-powered team members.

    Welcome mercellusb!

That's great!!! I was wondering who that player was. Tell him thanks for me! We just met with the owner of Travel-to-Teach and she said she would install F@H on all their computers and join our Team. Thanks, T2T!!! Also, we just got word that KitKat and GWiz are now setup with F@H at their home. We should see their username (Everlastings) pop up over the weekend. Speaking of, at this rate we might be able to break the 100 WU mark by the end of the weekend.
