Today Isara will be celebrating it’s 4th Annual Song Kran helmet donation ceremony. At about 4:00pm the local police, nurses, and news media will come to our Learning Center and help us give 100 helmets to Thais.
The Song Kran festival is a lot of fun, but all the fun comes at a big cost. During the 3 days of water fights thousands of people are hurt and killed on the roads. Many of which could have avoided injury, or death, by simply wearing a helmet.
The Internet connection is not very good so we hope the live webcast will work.

Let’s give out some helmets!

Students at a government school wear helmets donated by Isara Charity.
Over the years Isara has realized that the motorcycle safety issue is much more complicated than just “Wear a helmet.” In this particular situation Thailand’s 900 year-old culture is clashing with a product of our western world and more than 80% of the citizens have been effected by it.
Little to nothing is being done to educate the people about safety and law enforcement is practically non-existent. Everyone from the parents – to the teachers – to the police are turning a blind eye to a problem that has a major social and financial impact on their country and their lives.
Starting in 2008, Isara will begin a new safety campaign to get more drivers to wear helmets.
